Those streaming tears are not just tears -
Her head stuffed into the nook made by where my neck meets my shoulder - I can't will her to be more outgoing because it's not her nature. She's got a soft heart, is cautious.. this will serve her well in some situations.
Her arms crossed, face scrunched - while some may label her stubborn and defiant ...... I see her being brave as she stands up for what she believes in.
I learned a long time ago (with the help of others) that it's not what you look at that matters - it's never just my daughter who is crying or who stands in front of me with her arms crossed, but it's a little girl who is encountering one of life's big experiences head on.
And when I see her in this light, I can focus on being there for her and hold space for her to be, well, her.
What do you see?
