How to Avoid Burnout as a Confident Girl Parent

Have you ever started RESENTING the girl in your life?
This is a topic that NOBODY ever talks about, so of course…we’re gonna talk about it.

In this post, I’ll talk about WHY burnout happens and you’ll walk away with three actionable strategies you can use to STOP feeling burned out as a Confident girl parent.

Today we’re going to dive into a topic that NOBODY talks about. The truth is, IF you parent a girl, at one time or another you have probably been super duper annoyed with her.

First, I want you to know this is completely normal and doesn’t make you a bad parent.

I’ve worked with hundreds of Confident girl parents and ALL OF THEM have struggled with feeling disappointed, or even resentful of certain things she does.

Feeling disappointed or resentful is a sign that YOU have not been practicing adequate self-care.

Here are three ways YOU can avoid Confident girl burnout.

#1 Understand that you can’t control every situation.

If you’re like me, you LOVE to love on your girl. As your girl starts to grow, you will come to the painful realization that you CANNOT control every situation.

Your job as a MODERN Gutsy girl parent is to foster independence, not keep her forever (even though a big sweet part of you would love that).

Pro-tip: Be honest with yourself. Don’t shame yourself by saying ‘Oh I must be an awful parent for having these resentful feelings.’ Instead say, 'I'm likely a normal parent who's struggling to resolve an issue with respect to managing the needs of my daughter.'

If the feeling pops up again, you can take that as a signal that maybe you need some additional support.

#2 Break for some personal TLC.

Sometimes parenting feels more like surviving.

If you are feeling like you are running on fumes, you need to take some time for yourself.

Your girl does not benefit from a cranky, short-fused, zombie.

I know you want to go, go, go, ALL of the time, but HOLD ON. Your self-care is important for a reason.

YOU my dear are precious.

Your bucket needs refilling.

Pro-tip: Trust yourself. If you feel tired and run down, you’re tired and run down.

Running on empty is no good for anyone, especially your girl. Show your strong sense of self-worth by taking a break and giving yourself some TLC.

#3: Teach your girl how to view herself.

If you feel resentful of giving your girl everything you’ve got, you need to take some personal responsibility.

There is an expectation of parents — particularly mothers — to be everything and give everything to our children, and if they don’t have what it takes, then they’ve failed as a parent.

Pro-tip: Get out of your own way.

We’re human. We don't do everything perfectly (even if we could it wouldn’t be what’s best for our girls). Your girl has to grow up to live in the real world, and the real world isn't perfect.

A girl can't expect to always to have people around her who understand her or cater to her every wish.

We are the one species more than any other that has to learn from others. And so, if we don't take ourselves so seriously, neither will she.

Now you’ve learned exactly how to avoid Confident girl parenting burnout,

Remember, it’s normal! Don’t be ashamed, just take action.
